Flashing details deserve their own attention because water always looks for the joint. A two-part approach gives the water a route out rather than a route behind the roof.
Step flashing is installed one piece per shingle course. Counter flashing then covers the top edge so water sheds over the joint.
Use clean cuts, clear overlaps and the right detail tools for the material. A careful flashing plan is easier to live with than a return visit.
